Lime Kiln

Near the Pigeon House is a well preserved lime kiln built into the face of a stone outcrop. The lime kilns were used to burn limestone at a high temperature to produce quicklime which was mixed with sand and used as mortar or plaster in the construction of Ballindoolin House. Quicklime was also used as a fertilizer for the fields.
